The youngest we start students is age 2 1/2. Most dancers continue until they complete high school. We do not offer adult classes.
Our season starts the week of Labor Day and ends with our yearly recital in mid June. Since we need to order costumes in December, we can only accept new students from mid June until the beginning of December. Contact us for more details on open enrollment dates and availability!
We place dancers by age and ability. New students are typically placed in a lower level so we can evaluate them and, if needed, move them up to a more appropriate class.
We have an annual recital the second week of June. Due to our outstanding relationship with the Franklin Regional School District, we are the only dance studio that they allow to use their high school facilities each year.
Yes, our program promotes a cooperative environment requiring all dancers to respect, encourage and support each other. We participate in several local competitions and we require attendance in at least one dance workshop per year. We have three teams. Our minis are ages 6-9, juniors ages 9-12 and teens 13 and up. Auditions are held in June.
YES. We believe young children should dress like young children. We never allow our dancers to wear any type of inappropriate costumes on stage or attire in class.
Shoes can be purchased from any dance attire facility. We require pink or a skin-toned ballet shoe for our female 45-minute and 1 hr combination dancers as well as all female dancers participating in a Ballet class. Boys will wear black ballet shoes. Girls in our 45-minute and 1 hr combination classes, as well as any 30-minute Tap class, will need tan-colored, buckled tap shoes. Girls 8 and up in a 45-minute Tap class as well as any boys will wear black-laced tap shoes. Hip Hop students will need to wear CLEAN tennis shoes. Bare feet are all that is needed for the rest of our classes.
At DSD we do not have a specific color or style of dance attire that we require. We do ask that all dancers wear clothing that is fitted and that will allow them to be able to move and stretch accordingly. Please be sure hair is secured in some type of pony tail or braids.
Yes, Please be sure to pull all the way into our parking lot when dropping off your dancer. DO NOT stop at the entrance. We are fortunate to have grown excellent relationships with our neighbors who have allowed our customers to park in their lots after business hours. We also have access to additional parking across the street at Leahs Daycare. Please Do Not park at Matz Chiropractor's office as they have customers that come in in the evenings that need to be able to park close to their facility.
